Thesis I: Divine providence is distinguished by object.

Thesis II: Irrational creatures are an object.

Explanation: 1. All actions of irrational creatures are subject to divine providence. 2. In the government of irrational creatures four distinct things present themselves.

Thesis III: Rational creatures.

Explanation: 1. God declares His will to Angels and men. 2. He permits free choice to them.

Thesis IV: This government was one thing before the fall, another after.

Thesis V: Government before the fall.

Thesis VI: God declares His will commonly to Angels and men.

Thesis VII: In particular to man alone.

Thesis VIII: In delivering a bodily and spiritual law.

Thesis IX: A spiritual law.

Thesis X: A corporal law.

Explanation: * 1. The law concerning the tending of Paradise. 2. The place of Paradise. 3. Whether the tree of life was so called physically or sacramentally.

Dr. Steven Dilday holds a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Campbell University, a Master of Arts in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia), and both a Master of Divinity and a  Ph.D. in Puritan History and Literature from Whitefield Theological Seminary.  He is also the translator of Matthew Poole's Synopsis of Biblical Interpreters and Bernardinus De Moor’s Didactico-Elenctic Theology.
