De Moor X:7: The Efficiency of the Trinity in Providence

1 min read

Providence is indeed chiefly attributed to the Father Economically.  This follows manifestly enough from those things that were similarly observed concerning Creation, Chapter VIII, § 9.  Indeed, Providence, as we heard in § 1, is a Corollary of Creation, Creation continued, as it were.  If, therefore, Creation is economically applicable to the Father, the same is with good reason supposed concerning Providence.  Hence specifically, chiefly and κατ᾽ ἐξοχὴν, pre-eminently, in this work the Father is wont often to be named, on account of the corresponding Order of the Persons and of the Works among themselves, with Scripture also leading the way, Matthew 11:25; Proverbs 30:4; Ephesians 3:14, 15.  One may consider God the Father here after the likeness of a provident father, who benignly cares for his entire family:  compare BARTHOLOMEUS VAN VELSEN in his Philosophia Scripturaria, chapter XVII, § 17, pages 691, 692, tome 2.  On Ephesians 3:14, 15, consult also Chapter V, § 7, above.  At the same time, Providence, as an action ad extra, and flowing from essential Attributes, is common to the three divine Persons on account of the common Essence of the three, Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:3:  consult also Chapter V, § 21; Psalm 104:30:  see Chapter V, § 26.
