David’s last words: a character of himself; of a good ruler, and his usefulness, 1-4. His faith on God’s covenant with him, 5. Destruction to the wicked, 6, 7. David’s worthies and their valiant acts, 8-39.

Matthew Henry: 'The historian is now drawing towards a conclusion of David's reign, and therefore gives us an account here, I. Of some of his last words, which he spoke by inspiration, and which seem to have reference to his seed that was to be for evermore, spoken of in the close of the foregoing chapter, ver. 1-7. II.
