12. To Matthew.

A Liturgy is also attributed to Saint Matthew, which is vulgarly called the Mass of the Ethiopians. Even more arguments of νοθείας/illegitimacy betray it, as that prayer is made to God, that He would absolve our Popes, Princes, and Kings; Patriarchs, Archbishops, etc.; which sort in the time of Saint Matthew were not to be found in any nation; that mention is made of the Epact,[1] and the golden number,[2] of more recent intention; and that it has even more vestiges of the later superstition brought into the Church.

[1] Epacts were adjustments made to bring the lunar and solar calendars into harmony for determining the date of Easter. [2] Another devise used to find the New Moon, for the purpose of determining the date of Easter.
