Heidegger's Bible Handbook: 1 Corinthians: Occasion for Writing

3. The scandals and Letter of the Corinthians furnished the occasion for writing.

The occasion for the writing of this Epistle was furnished to Paul both by the egregious scandals and vices that, after Paul’s departure from Corinth, violently agitated the Church planted there, as Paul had been informed by those of Chloe’s household:[1] and by a Letter of the Corinthians, whereby they had brought him into counsel concerning some doubtful cases.

[1] 1 Corinthians 1:10, 11.
